ABOUT

I am Heather C. Markham-Creasman.

Disability is personal to me.
I’ve lived with a progressive muscular dystrophy my entire life, and I’ve been aware of its impact since 1990. I've watched it change my ability to walk and reach.

I now use a power wheelchair full-time, supported by the equipment that makes my life possible. And still, there is joy here—steady, present, and hard-earned.

MY CURRENT LIFE

My high school sweetheart found me again after 35 years, and we were married in 2024. We chose to begin this chapter of our life together in the center of Arizona’s wine tourism.

We travel often and find our way into museums wherever we go. In the summer of 2023, we spent 22 days on the road to support my book, Rough Waters. That winter took us to Madrid, Barcelona, and Paris to see my photographs in international galleries. In 2024, we continued on to Budapest and Vienna.

My power wheelchair shapes how I move through the world and how I see it. It isn’t my identity, but it does offer a steady vantage point—one that has, somewhat conveniently, supported my work as a photographer. I’m grateful to the international photography community for recognizing that work and placing it in galleries.

I continue to write—working on my next book and ongoing essays—and to photograph.

We share our home with our two-year-old cat, Dolly.
